  • Job Title - Junior Buyer
  • Location - JD Group, Hollinsbrook Way, Pilsworth, BL9 8RR
  • Working Hours - Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm, 40 hours per week.

What You'll Be Doing:                                                                          

  • Meeting and exceeding category sales and margin targets
  • Improved profitability
  • Limiting churn and manging markdown, as well as an understanding of stock churn

Planning

  • Reviewing & interpret previous season analysis (with Merchandiser)
  • Plan future season strategy and financial planning for category (with Merchandiser)
  • Formulation of store level range plan (with Merchandiser and Senior/Head of)
  • Identify opportunities and feed into Exclusive Brand product development process
  • Have an understanding of the Company Strategy and ensure my category is adhering to it
  • Track competitor activity
  • Understand brand positioning, strategies, product ranges and pricing
  • Develop a wider understanding of outdoor market
  • Identify new opportunities that can help drive category performance
  • Construct and present a seasonal sign off pack detailing how sales and margin targets will be met and exceeded (with merchandiser)

Delivering

  • Attend selection meetings, complete and understand relevant pre-work
  • Ensure ranging process is completed within critical path
  • Ensure relevant information gathered and assist in inputting into correct systems within critical path time frame (PLM, Range Plannig tools etc.)
  • Ensure assortments meet needs of store level range plan
  • Negotiate with suppliers to optimise commercial terms with an awareness of the negotiation options open to me
  • Contribute to in-store space & VM planning
  • Help to define on-line presentation of the product assortment
  • Identify any relevant marketing opportunities and help to ensure customer communication is compelling
  • Drive promotional activity and secure necessary product / support from brands
  • Maintain excellent relationships with Suppliers
  • Have a knowledge of Supplier SLA’s where relevant

Trading

  • Review weekly trading performance against KPI’s, address issues
  • Manage risks and maximise opportunities (with merchandiser)
  • Drive trading activity to achieve planned sales and profit
  • Make regular store visits to review performance & presentation
  • Suggest in-season price changes to Buying Manager helping drive sales and manage stock commitments
  • Feed into trading meetings on a weekly basis
  • Write a monthly report reviewing my area helping to shape future trading activity (along with merchandiser)

Skills/Experience/Knowledge:

  • Previous experience within a Buying Assistant/Assistant Buyer role with an Outdoor or high street Retailer is preferred
  • Experience within financial responsibility in relation to the buy.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office: Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Previous managerial experience would be advantageous however not essential.
  • Ability to make working relationships both internally as well as externally.
  • Ability to manage workload and tasks delegated to them by the Senior Team.
  • Analytical and Numerical.
